WANG XUCHEN
The parade this year is as grand as ever, with fancy costumes and enchanting dances. However, I manage to spot a value in these dances. The dances, which showcase certain races, are not performed by people of that race alone, I see chinese wearing traditional indian costume and dance just like any other indians. It is certainly amazing as the performers put behind their differences in religion, language and race, and put on an amazing performance. From this I can see the racial harmony in Singapore. The different races of Singapore bonding together, practice hard and showcase a dance unique to Singapore.

The theme of the parade this year is "Colours of Fabric, One People". From the parade, there was a showcase of banners hand-woven by people of the communities and students of their school. The banners are not only a symbol of their pride and joy, but also signifies the unity of Singaporeans. Members of the communities working together, students taking their time off to complete the project, this is the definition of One People.

The parade this year is RV's first involvement. This year, we contributed to the theme by sewing a banner with the words "RV 立化情" on it. The project started during last year's December holiday, students take the time off their schedule and come to school to help out with the making of banners. We encounted many many problems during the project, like lack of resources, lack of training and undurable products. Although the road to success was not very smooth, we tacle the problems face to face and in the end, manage to make a beautiful banner.

We thoroughly enjoy ourselves during the parade. We were extremely enthusiastic, just like any other audiences, cheering, jumping, waving pom poms. I bet we were the noisiest crowd of people. We had also been taking quite a lot pf pictures during the parade. The derp pictures and unglams left a permanent mark on our heart. We would be reminded of the awesome time we had whenever we see these photos. The chingay parade is not only educational, but also a great time to hang out with my besties.

I find this event very special as there were thousands of people from different racing performing together as one. "One chingay, one parade, one Singapore," was this year's theme. All of us cheered and had an enjoyable night that day. It was actually a good way of relieving stress from the studies. It was also a rare opportunity to have fun with my good friends! Also, among all the performers, I spotted a very young girl. She was guided by an adult. Though not so experienced, she performed bravely. We should really learn it from her:))
