The Journey So Far...

The CID programme has been going on for a few weeks now, and it's time for us to share our reflections for the lessons. You might be thinking, what is CID? 可以吃的吗? Well actually, CID, Construct, Integrate, Differentiate is not the crime fighting unit you see on television, but a curriculum only available in River Valley High School. It is a lesson not focused on mainstream academics like Maths, Science, Languages, but about the thinking and processing of one's mind. Now, let us share with you a lesson we have personally learnt thus far.
For the past few lessons of CID, our teacher, Mr Willy Chua, and our class have discussed many topics which are very relevant, significant and worthy of giving much thought to go deeper and think about it. We have discussed about POVERTY IN SINGAPORE, LOOKING BEYOND A PHOTOGRAPH, DEDUCING AND INFERRING FROM OBSERVATION, PRESENTATION SKILLS as well as TEAMWORK

WANG XUCHEN
For POVERTY IN SINGAPORE, you might think that its rare. However, you are wrong. The poverty rate in Singapore is very high. In fact, its is one of the top few countries with a high poverty rate. Poverty in singapore is rarely seen and observed. When we think of poverty, we think of people with no proper clothing, on the streets, rushing up to you to beg for money. Or perhaps we think of a homeless man, all alone living on the streets. These are not common in Singapore, so isnt it surprising that its poverty rate is one of the highest in the world.

Not everything is what it seems like it is
Also, we have learned to LOOK BEYOND A PHOTOGRAPH and not judge a book by its cover. This is because not everything is what it seems. For example, one might look fierce but he might be a gentle and mind person. Put yourself in their shoes and think from their point of view. How would you feel if someone mistake you for a gangster, when you are educated and working with a high salary? So think before you ever judge others
By judging, it reflects on who you really am.

Have you watched beauty and the beast? The beast looks ugly, fierce and dangerous.
However, it has a kind heart in nature. Many people were told that he was dangerous, and wanted to kill  him. However, belle did not judge the beast like the others even though they didnt know each other for very long. In the end, belle sacrificed herself for the beast. We then realise that the beast was a handsome prince. We should never judge one as one might turn out to be what we didnt expect.

We also learnt to INFER AND DEDUCE FROM OBSERVATION. People show feelings on their faces, from there , we can tell how they feel. If somebody is smiling, she/he is most probably happy. We can also observe from actions. For example, when somebody clenches his fist, he might be very angry. We can also tell from how they speak. When one suddenly speaks softer or slower, or perhaps monotonous, you can infer that he might be having a bad day, or he is very tired.

We also learnt about GOOD PRESENTATION SKILLS. When presenting, one must be loud and  engaging. This is so that it can get the audience's focus. He must also be smiling so he can lighten the atmosphere. When presenting, we need to remember not to fidget. We should also talk at an appropriate pace and maintain eye contact with the audiences. These determine ur confidence level, which is an important factor in having a good presentation. We should also speak fluently and with intonation. Before a presentation, one must always be prepared and confident to speak.

We had fun WORKING AS A TEAM, researching and blogging. Although each of us were different and had different ideas, we were able to voice out and combine our ideas into one where we all agree. Working with each other gives each other more opportunities to know more about each other. After working together, i have truely understood teamwork. Although we had times where we were disagreable with someone else's opinion, we could all sort it out fast by convicing each other in the best way and not waste anyone's hardwork.

All are DIFFERENT but united as ONE
DIFFERENT but we SHINE like a STAR

In summary, we learnt a lot during these few lessons of CID. All of which are related and can be applied in our daily lives. The lessons are interesting and our teacher have led us well in discussions. Also, he has given good feedback and his personal opinion for the activities we have done. CID is a really fun and interesting module. It is also significant and meaningful as they are things which are commonly encountered by many of us here.
